Pre-School/Day Care
Most parents select a pre-school or a day care center based on their convenient location. Pre-school sessions are generally ½, day making a long drive a drawback. Day care is frequently relied upon when both parents are working. Again, the proximity of the facility to home is often a key factor in selection. When a young child has seizures, safety and special programs to meet developmental milestones become the deciding features.
• Free pre-school special education may be provided following a determination by your home school district’s evaluation process.
• When special education services are not needed, opt for a program that has a philosophy of accepting differences and optimizing abilities. Train all program staff to recognize your child’s seizures and provide appropriate first aid.
