Early Intervention Programs
To be the most effective, an early intervention evaluation should be scheduled as soon after the diagnosis of epilepsy is made, especially if developmental milestones are not being met. These programs not only support the child, but the entire family as well, bringing important coping skills to the table with the understanding that siblings also feel the effect of the demands created by a special needs child. Program components may include:
• family education and counseling
• home visits
• parent support groups
• vision services
• speech pathology and audiology
• occupational therapy
• assistive technology devices and services
• physical therapy
• psychological services
• nursing services
• nutrition services
• social work services
