Low glycemic index diet

This diet also shares the same goal of ketosis.  Unlike the other two treatments, this diet focuses on the type of carbohydrate eaten as opposed to the amount. The glycemic index is defined as the effect that different kinds of carbohydrate has on blood sugar levels.  Foods are broken down into low, medium, and high carbohydrate foods.  Patients are instructed to consume only low glycemic index food choices.

• More carbohydrates are allowed – typically about 40-50 grams.
• Less restrictive therefore obtaining ketosis may be more difficult
• Not many studies yet.
