Do AEDs cure or control seizures?

They control, but do not cure seizures. The most common way they act is by suppressing the seizure focus (area where seizures originate) and preventing the spread of seizures by changing the threshold of the brain cells surrounding the area that generates seizures.
Even though medications for seizures do not cure the epilepsy, they could prevent brain damage by reducing the strength f a seizure.
