Brian malformations

• How do “migrational disorders” happen? Normally, the brain cells (neurons) have a pathway they have to travel to reach their final destination. In persons with migrational disorders the brain cells (neurons) go to the wrong place or they do not go at all or stop before reaching the final destination

• Some malformations of the brain, also called “migrational disorders,” could be associated with seizures. These malformations could range from mild to severe

• Some names you may hear include:
  - Polymicrogyria:
  - Macrogyria
  - Schizencephaly
  - Cortical dysplasias

• If they are located in a single part of the brain, they could be surgically removed.

• In some cases, these structural changes could lead to developmental disabilities
