The first step to receive successful treatment is having the correct diagnosis. Having the correct diagnosis gives you a great chance of having your epilepsy controlled.

The first question we need to answer is DO you have epilepsy or something very similar that looks like epilepsy. Even though this may sound like something that does not apply to you, 2 to 3 out of 10 patients diagnosed with epilepsy do not have it!

The second important question we need to answer is WHICH kind of epilepsy you have. Each type of epilepsy may benefit from certain medications and treatment options and not from others.

The third important question is WHY do you have epilepsy?

In order to answer these questions, our epilepsy specialized  will get a detailed history of your epilepsy, will do a complete exam and will often need to request some testing to confirm your diagnosis and understand the cause of it.

Testing that your doctor may need to request:

EEG TESTING
  ROUTINE EEG
  AMBULATORY EEG
  VIDEO - EEG

SPECIAL EEG TESTING: MAGNETOENCEPHALOGRAM (MEG)

IMAGING TESTING (CT, MRI)

COGNITIVE TESTING

NEREG is dedicated to helping you get an accurate diagnosis and guiding you in treatment options. While we have a variety of locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, we also welcome patients from other states and countries. Some of our hospitals provide accommodations for family members.
