Support Groups
The current support groups offered at NEREG are for people diagnosed with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures who have completed treatment and are held on-line. Persons with psychogenic seizures find that the group is a way to touch base with others who are living through similar difficulties and to share solutions others have tried. They may have no one else around who has PNES or knows what that is, so this is an excellent way to bond with the community.
People with epilepsy who have gone to support groups in the past have reported that attending helps them to feel as though they are not alone. They might not know anyone else with epilepsy before attending a support group, so attending helps them to meet other people who are going through the same experiences. Also, people who have gone to support groups have reported that they find them helpful in that they often learn new information about epilepsy. NEREG ran epilepsy support groups (in-person and on-line) for many years but recently shut these down due to limited attendance. However, if there is renewed interest, we might start a group up again. Email lmyers@epilepsygroup.com to share your thoughts.
