Blood work

Blood work could be very important to help diagnose the cause of epilepsy, factors that could trigger seizures and causes of seizures that are not epileptic.

• Causes of epilepsy that can be detected through blood tests: electrolyte imbalance (low sodium, calcium or changes in Potassium), kidney or liver problems, hormonal problems (i.e. diabetes or thyroid problems) and some metabolic problems like for example Phelylketonuria.
• Triggers of epileptic seizures
• Causes of seizures that are not epileptic (like for example low sugar levels called hypoglycemia)
