The physical exam

The physical exam

• It can help in recognizing some particular types of epilepsy.
  - For example in absence epilepsy, seizures may be brought on by hyperventilation in the office.

• The physical exam can sometimes help identify the cause of the epilepsy.
  - For example, a skin exam could reveal the characteristics of some diseases that go along with seizures such as tuberous sclerosis or Sturge-Weber.

• The presence of one sided paralysis (hemiplegia) will tell us that the is a problem with the side of the brain (hemisphere) opposite to the side of paralysis (remember that the left side of the brain controls the right part of the body and viceversa)
